It was registered by that name as a Professional Society under the society Act 1962. It is a professional society comprising various health care workers that include specialists like medical officers, dental officers, medical researchers and scientists, pharmacists, allied health workers. Be a health care worker from any recognized health related institution both in PNG and overseas.

The functions of the Society are:

  • To pursue its purposes consistent with the purpose for which it was established, particularly to ensure the growth and development of the Society;
  • Implement policies, guidelines, plans or recommendations endorsed at its Annual General Meetings;
  • Promote professional and ethical standard of health care in Papua New Guinea, provide advice to Public Hospital Boards, Provincial Health Administration, and government the government on any issues and matters relating to health practice in Papua New Guinea; and
  • Carrying out and other function consistent with its constitution.
